OPPORTUNITIES

AstroConvos is proud to offer a variety of mentorship programs built to provide students at all educational levels with the opportunity to both receive and provide guidance. Our programs teach invaluable skills for students pursuing careers in a variety of fields in STEM including but not limited to Astronomy, Astrophysics and Physics and engineering.

At AstroConvos we believe in empowering students with experiential learning opportunities to even the inequitable playing field that exists within industry and academia. As with all of our AstroConvos programs, priority will be given to traditionally underrepresented groups in STEM, including students who identify as indigenous, economically disadvantaged, racial minorities, rural residents, refugees, new immigrants and first-generation university students but everyone is encouraged to apply.

  • STEM Focused: Our program teaches valuable skills applicable for students pursuing different fields of STEM, including life/health sciences, computer science, and engineering.

  • Flexible: Each mentor-mentee pairing is different. Different pairings focus on different life, career, and/or academic goals. You and your mentor/mentee will define your own goals and pursue them together.

  • Support for Underrepresented Groups: We offer special programs and outreach for traditionally underrepresented groups in STEM, including people identifying as indigenous, economically disadvantaged, rural residents, refugees, and new immigrants.

  • Networking: Connecting with a mentor/mentee will allow both of you to be further connected to the global STEM community. As a student-run program, you will have the opportunity to network with like-minded students that are also pursuing STEM.

FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

STEMnet

The STEMNet mentorship program aims to provide undergraduate students with more insight into future academic and career paths in STEM. Undergraduate mentees get to have one-time “coffee-chats” with academic/industry professionals in STEM fields, such as graduate students, researchers, professors, scientists, software developers, and more. Mentees can ask their mentors about careers, schooling, application processes, etc. to help them make more informed decisions regarding their future in STEM.
